Weightlessness - version 0.3

Version 0.3 should be available for our patrons. Public page is now updated to the version 0.2.1.

Update 0.3:
*Gezoracle and associated levels (10-14) are now available
*Some basic work on music & SFX done
*Cheat engine added

Update 0.2.1:
*Asteroids - increased size of each asteroid type
*MC - removed gun lock in the damaged state
*MC - reduced firing speed and recoil
*MC - increased impact of leg movements on character rotation
*MC - increased jetpack power

Update 0.2:
 *Mutant pincher and associated levels (5-9) are now available

Weightlessness - Upcoming balance changes

We received some feedback from players. Apparently, the game is too hard for an average player. We don't find it painful ourselves, but we have very exotic tastes in difficulty.

The gun's firing speed is actually a bait, the "spray and pray" tactics don't work here. Personally, I prefer using single shots and short bursts, immediately stabilizing movements after that. The problem is that the smallest asteroids are too tiny and very hard to hit. And that enforces a player to use long bursts. So I think we'll increase the size of each asteroid type by 1 grade (the smallest ones will look like the current medium ones).

Another issue is the gun lock after taking damage. That makes it almost impossible to stabilize movements in the damaged state and often leads to a "dead lock". We'll remove it.

And the last for now is the legs controls. We'll make it more depending on the current rotation speed, so it should be easier to stabilize rotation.

Weightlessness - UI

We've done some work on the UI elements. And the basic combat mechanics are almost complete, too. So I hope we'll release a build by the end of the month, after some H-scene drawing and level design.

Weightlessness - Enemy #1 - Gezoracle

A cuttlefish from outer space, it neither has the powers of its famous ancestor nor its size. But it certainly has tentacles, and it's all we care about. The first and probably the weakest enemy of the game. It has periodic and jellyfish-like movements. It damages a player character on a collision.

Weightlessness - controls basics

First of all, we'd like to explain the game concept. It's pretty much an adult version of Asteroids in terms of basic mechanics. Shoot some asteroids, avoid some asteroids, win. But that's not really fun to develop if you ask me. So let's make some complications. What will suit an adult game? Right, different enemies. Not enough? Ok, let's do some weird stuff with game controls. In that game, you will not directly control your character movements. A character movement speed and its direction will mostly depend on a gun recoil. And to aim a gun, a player must use character's legs to adjust rotation speed and her arms to adjust a final direction of a shot. The jetpack will help to acquire a more predictable movement in comparison to a gun. That's how weightlessness in space should work in our opinion. And yes, we know nothing about actual space physics and don't intend to start debates on this topic.
